The Anchiva Enterprise Content Security Appliance is deployed behind the firewall (at the network gateway) and provides anti-virus, anti-spam, and anti-spyware protection to the organization. The appliance line is initially available in four models, targeted to deployments from SMBs through Enterprise and Service Provider shops (A/V scanning performance of from 100 Mb/sec to 900 Mb/sec). The appliances themselves can be deployed inline as a transparent Layer 2 Bridge or in NAT mode; and each of the appliances supports HA deployments in either active/active or active/passive mode.

Both inbound and outbound Internet traffic (HTTP, FTP, SMTP and POP3) is analyzed for the presence of viruses, spyware, or spam.

Virus and spyware detection features include automatic updating (provided by the vendor's Anchiva RapidRx Labs researchers) of a signature database boasting 1 million signatures and identifying 70,000 spyware and virus files. Infected messages and files can be quarantined; and files can also be blocked based on their size or file type. Phone home blocking is supported for the blocking of spyware communications from infected PCs.

For the detection of spam, the product relies on three methodologies: DNS blocking, black/white lists, and content filtering. Specific filtering features include support for RBL, SPF, and Reverse DNS checks; MIME Header checks; keyword and phrase filtering; customizable black and white list settings by IP address and domain; automatic update of spam signatures; and HTML normalization. Identified messages can be tagged, deleted, or quarantined.

Other features of the appliances include support for keyword-based Web content blocking and custom URL list blocking, support for internal HD logging and offload to external support, and support for E-mail alerts. Management of the appliances is via a Web-based GUI.

Initially, four appliances are offered by the vendor:

- Anchiva-500: 1U, targeted to SMBs. Includes four 10/100/1000 ports, supports up to 64,000 connections and can establish up to 4,000 new sessions per second. A/V performance in active/active pair deployments is listed at 100 Mb/sec; spam scanning is performed at up to 180,000 messages/hour. The Anchiva-500 additionally supports a LAN bypass option for stand-alone deployments.

- Anchiva-1000: 1U, targeted to Enterprise deployments. Includes eight 10/100/1000 ports, supports up to 100,000 connections and can establish up to 6,000 new sessions per second. A/V performance in active/active pair deployments is listed at 200 Mb/sec; spam scanning is performed at up to 360,000 messages/hour.

- Anchiva-1000X: A hardware accelerated version of the Anchiva-1000 that increases performance to up to 15,000 new sessions per second; with A/V performance in active/active pair deployments listed at 500 Mb/sec and spam scanning performed at up to 720,000 messages/hour.

- Anchiva-2000X: 2U appliance that is also hardware accelerated, and targeted to Enterprise or Service Provider deployments. Includes eight 10/100/1000 ports, supports up to 300,000 connections and can establish up to 15,000 new sessions per second. A/V performance in active/active pair deployments is listed at 900 Mb/sec; spam scanning is performed at up to 1 million messages/hour.
