The flagship product from new company OutProtect, Downloaded Data Guard seeks to prevent the theft of sensitive corporate data (such as customer lists) by trusted employees. It is a utility that seeks to prevent the unauthorized usage of corporate data after it has been downloaded to an employee's PC from their employer's Salesforce.com repository.

To use the application, an administrator would first install the software by uploading it from AppExchange to their Salesforce administrator account. From there they can configure users and usage policies; and the users then download the configured software components to their PCs.

Following the installation, information that is downloaded by the employee from Salesforce.com is automatically placed in a specially protected area of their PC. Once in this protected area, the data cannot be removed (such as copying to a removable drive, or attaching to an E-mail, etc.) without corporate authorization. The administrator can additionally (and remotely) trigger the deletion of the protected data, such as may be necessary if the employee leaves the company or their PC/laptop is stolen. This data deletion would then be processed the next time the computer connects to the Internet.

In addition to preventing misuse of downloaded data, the product also maintains logs detailing user attempts to violate file removal policies. Additional features include support for alerting and reporting, and the automated encryption of downloaded data on the employee's hard drive.
